Father’s Day Gift Ideas

Thursday 29th August 2019

Looking for the perfect gift for someone important to you this Father’s Day? Look no further than Prahran Market for plenty of ideas that are sure to go down a  treat.

With so much on offer, we’ve gathered up a list of our favourites (you’re welcome!) and we recommend that you wander the aisles and explore: how else are you going to grab a little something extra for yourself?

Learn New Tricks

Dads can get back to basics with Gary’s Meats Butchery Workshops. This class includes a demonstration and one-on-one tutorial with Gary himself. Dad will work on a half lamb to learn about all the popular, and not so well known, cuts. Better still, he gets to take all the meat home, along with his own knife, apron and tea towel. Click here for more info.

Essential Ingredient also hosts regular cooking classes, with everything from Indian to Understanding Fish, Baking Essentials to Plant Based. If your dad likes to get his hands dirty in the kitchen, you’ll be sure to find a session he’ll enjoy.

For the Foodie

Everyone knows a good knife is essential in any food lover’s kitchen. But what if it’s looking (and acting) well-used? Head to Prahran Market Hardware to give it a new lease of life. You can get it sharpened while you grab a bite and shop. For specialty sharpening – or for a new set of high quality knives and other kitchen tools – head to The Essential Ingredient.

Give His Kicks a New Lease of Life

If dad’s shoes are looking a little worse for wear too, the Prahran Market Shoe Repairs could be your answer. Take in your dad’s favourites to give them a new lease of life.

A Buzz, Clip or Trim

If your dad likes to be clean shaven, treat him to a hot towel shave at our barber Fade Spot. We are told it is the closest shave he’ll ever have! Or, you could just give him a spruce up with a great haircut or beard trim.

For the Eco-Conscious

Shop Neutral is the place to go for a useful, yet eco-conscious gift. From a reusable coffee cup or water bottle, to wax food wraps, veggie bags, reusable straws and composting units to name a few. You are sure to find something that dad will love, and feel good about, here.

Feeling Lucky?

Prahran Lotto should be your destination if you want to pick up the latest issue of your dad’s favourite magazine. And, if you are feeling lucky, pick him up a lotto ticket or scratchie as well.

Eating Out

Looking for some quality time with Dad? Why not gift him lunch. Make a trip to the Market on the weekend and you can all soak up the fantastic Market vibe, with live music in Market Square, entertainment for the kids and locals going about their weekly shop. Give him a Prahran Market Voucher and then Dad can just pick and choose his favourite eats for the day – a Roman pizza from Farini, a delicious and healthy dish at Stir The Pot, tasty Korean from Seoul Salon, fresh mussels from the Mussel Pot, falafels from The Falafel Man, sushi platters from Dragon Sushi, a snag from Mr Bratwurst, handmade empanadas from El Alamo, or a bowl of wonton soup and a beer from Café Egnaro.

Or why not graze across a few of each!

Then there is the new restaurant experience with breakfast, lunch or dinner at Mr. Hoddle, you can eat indoors, outdoors, at a private table or enjoy share plates with drinks at the bar. And yes they do offer gift vouchers!

Of course, you could always just grab and go from your favourite providores at the Market for a delicious park picnic. Visit any of our delis for a tasty selection of meats and cheeses, or pick up some delicious pre-prepared salads and meals from speciality traders. The awesome pies quiches and sausage rolls at Barossa Fine Foods have been catching our eye lately, along with their house-cured Lachshinken and other German-style sausage and meats.

Get in the Kitchen

For a more personal meal, why not get in the kitchen and cook dinner yourself? We’ve been eyeing off the beautiful steaks on offer from our butchers in Bracher Arcade including grass-fed, organic or dry aged, or game meats like rabbit, venison or wild boar. A delicious pork roast always goes down a treat!

For those that don’t eat red meat, there are beautiful seafood options aplenty, perhaps some fresh Pacific Oysters, local Victorian whiting or snapper.

Or for the non-meat eaters, we have recipe inspiration aplenty on our website, such as Whole Baked Cauliflower with Romesco Sauce, or delicious Gnocchi Sardi with Roast Cherry Tomato Sauce – both by Chef Tobie Puttock. You’ll find all the fresh produce you need and then some from our fruit and vegetable traders in Harvest Hall.

… Finish off with a tasty drop!

Lastly, treat him to a great wine or beer from Blackhearts & Sparrows. The in-store team are happy to advise and you’ll find a large selection of exclusive tipples and collaborations including Grafted Editions skin contact rose wine and Stomping Ground x Blackhearts & Sparrows beers. Or, if dad is a spirits guy, you’ll find them here too.

Or if a tipple of the non-alcoholic kind is more of what you need, head for imported loose leaf tea specialists Libertea, who even offer a pairing service if you are after a perfectly food-matched brew. Make sure you grab one of their beautiful handmade cards while there – they are little works of art!

So, no excuses. Head to the Market and show your appreciation to someone special this Father’s Day. We’ll see you at the Market!
