Orange Chocolate Pudding

Recipe by Sarah Glover

Serves 4-8 (depending how hungry you are)   |   Time to make: 1-2 hours

  • 1 cup self-raising flour
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 80g butter, melted, cooled
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 2 oranges
  • Sauce:
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder, sifted
  • 2 cups boiling orange water (you will get this from when you boil your oranges)
  1. For the perfect orange chocolate pudding, preheat oven to 180°C
  2. Place the orange in a medium pot, cover oranges with water,. Bring to the boil, reduce heat and cook till the oranges are soft, you may need to add more water to the pot. These will take a good hour or so – and keep the orange water for the pudding.
  3. Grease a ovenproof baking dish. Sift flour and cocoa into a large bowl. Stir in sugar.
  4. Combine butter, milk and egg in a jug. Slowly add to flour mixture, whisking until well combined and smooth. Spoon into baking dish. Smooth top, add the orange that you have cut into pieces, rind included.
  5. Sprinkle combined sugar and cocoa over pudding.
  6. Slowly pour boiling orange water over to cover. Place dish onto a baking tray. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes or until it bounces back when pressed gently in centre. Serve your chocolate pudding hot with cream and berries.
