Gingerbread Houses

Recipe by Wendy Ali-Akil, Stir The Pot

  • 125g butter
  • 120g caster sugar
  • 2 cups plain flour
  • 2 tsps. ground ginger
  • 1 egg yolk (reserve white for icing)
  • 80g honey
  • 1 tsp bicarbonate soda
  • 2 cups icing sugar
  • Printable gingerbread house template
  1. Mix butter and sugar together until light and creamy. Add yolk and honey, and mix. Add flour, bicarbonate soda and ginger, and mix until combined.
  2. Wrap dough in clingwrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  3. Roll out on lightly floured board and, using the printed template, cut the house pieces.
  4. Bake at 180°C for 8-10 minutes. Leave to cool on oven trays until pieces are firm.
  5. Secure the pieces of your house together with icing made from egg white and icing sugar.
  6. Decorate with lollies and Christmas cheer. Enjoy!
