Brie en Croute with Maple Brown Sugar Sauce

Celebrate all things French with this simple recipe for Brie en Croute. Perfect for entertaining.

  • 1 box filo pastry
  • 250g butter melted
  • ½ cup Pecans
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • 3 tbsp maple syrup
  • Two rounds French Brie or Camembert cheese
  • Water crackers or sliced baguette for serving
  1. Pre heat the oven to 200°C.
  2. Lay a single layer of Fillo Pastry on the bench and brush with melted butter. Place the cheese round in the centre and wrap the cheese in the pastry. Continue this process for at least 10 layers, turning over the cheese round each time before wrapping in the next layer.
  3. Place wrapped cheese round on a baking sheet and bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown. Allow cheese to stand for 10 to 20 minutes before serving.
  4. While the cheese cools, place nuts on a baking sheet and bake for 7 to 10 minutes until toasted. Coarsely Crush the nuts and set aside.
  5. In a medium saucepan, combine the brown sugar and maple syrup. Bring to boil over medium heat and then simmer until foamy (1 to 2 minutes) Combine the sauce with the nuts. Place in a serving bowl. Serve the Brie en Croute with water crackers or toasted bread rounds and the pecan maple sauce.
