Market Tours

Tours run on the third Saturday of each month. Bookings are essential.

 

PRAHRAN MARKET DISCOVERY TRAIL

Love good food? Interested in what the latest and greatest is or how to cook and serve unfamiliar produce? Join us on one of our Prahran Market Discovery Trails!

They’re a great way to get to know your local Market and sample some tasty delicacies from our friendly Traders. Each tour is led by one of our expert tour guides, who know everything from where to uncover rare and unusual culinary delights to how to use the produce once you get home (not to mention a few Market secrets you’ll learn along the way!).

When: The third Saturday of every month, from 9.45 – 11 am.

Duration: 1 hour

Includes: Personal tour guide (1 hour), food tastings, Prahran Market juteco reusable shopping bag, free coffee, exclusive market insights, and more!

Cost: $25 per person.

Prahran Market welcomes Community Group Tours looking for personalised foodie tours.

Duration: Between 60 and 90 minutes

Includes: Personal tour guide/s, food tastings and a Prahran Market juteco reusable shopping bag.

GUIDED SCHOOL TOURS

Our guided school tours are perfect for Food Studies students and offer them a unique and curated tour experience.

From a general market introduction to a tour tailored to specific curriculum topics, we’ve got the tour for you! Our guides will discuss your needs well in advance to make sure your tour is exactly what you need, and can help advise on seasonality and questions for the students. 

Curriculum topics our guides can cover:

  • how the market is connected to the local history of the community
  • changing food trends
  • sustainability and recycling
  • biodiversity
  • shopping trends – the way we like to shop to eat, past and present
  • culture and heritage through food – many different options under the one roof
  • certified organic – what does it really mean
  • family heritage – talking to the family business traders (some are 3rd generation)

 

Duration: 1 hour

Inclusions: Depending on your budget and needs, we can include tastings. Our guides can suggest several tasting options and talk about any special dietary requirements with you in advance. If you plan on staying at the Market for a short break or group lunch, please let us know as we can reserve a space for you while you are here. Minimum of 10 students per tour.

We are able to tailor what your session to maximise student learning relevance and outcomes. If you are studying a particular culture or heritage, for instance, we can further theme activities with flavours and tastes relating to your academic focus. Please get in touch with us to have a chat about your specific needs.

Tour Numbers:

We conduct the tours themselves in small groups to maximise learning outcomes, although larger groups can be accommodated with multiple tour guides and time.
