Sunday, February 25,  Alex Hughes

Born and raised in Sydney Australia, Alex first entered the professional music scene at age 16 when he joined legendary Sydney act, “Dirty Deeds AC/DC Tribute,” as Angus Young. At the same time, he was also earning a music degree at the Australian Institute of Music.

In 2008 he moved to Los Angeles, California in order to attend the world renowned, “GIT,” program at Musicians Institute. He was awarded the “Carvin Scholarship,” based on his submission tape to the school and would also go on to receive the “Stanley Clarke Scholarship.” While at MI he studied with such musicians as Carl Verheyen, Dean Brown, Scott Henderson, Alex Machacek, Adam Levy and Oz Noy.

After graduating from MI Alex spent the next six years working as a full-time session guitarist and musician for hire on the Los Angeles scene. He played hundreds of shows as a soloist in various forms and also played with many original and cover acts as a sideman. He worked with such artists as, Omar Rodriguez Lopez of Mars Volta, The Five and Dime Band at Disney California Adventure, The Universal All Access Band, The CopyCats, Douglas Charles Showalter, Joel Van Dijk, Dwight Kennedy Music, Porter Lori, UltraLove, Meg Olson, Lissa Lauria, and many others. He also ran a very popular live music night in Hollywood for five years and hosted musicians such as, “Wax,” “The Good Mad,” and, “Lana Shea.”

During this period he released two solo EPs under his own name. The EPs feature a unique mix of percussive acoustic guitar playing in the vein of Jon Comm and Andy Mckee, with more traditional singer-songwriter elements. He also released a duo EP with fellow singer-songwriter Adam Havick under the moniker, “Hughes and Havick,” which featured backing vocals from Grammy nominee, “Cam.” You can purchase these EPs using this link.

With over a decade’s experience behind the decks in Australia, Vale went on to conquer residencies in the Greek Islands and then Canada, where he spent six seasons as a resident of Canada’s largest and longest running house night. Since 2005 he has toured the globe and has had extensive residencies in North America and Europe.

After Five and a half years as the Red Bull Australia DJ vale stepped up to manage the Red Bull Music Academy (RBMA) in Australia for 18 Months before he returned to Europe once again play his own brand of dance-floor and festival magic in 2016. His signature flavor of Music transcends Deep, Tech, Disco, Funk, & Jazz, one of the most versatile DJ/Performers on the circuit his music just keeps on giving.

From the Celebrity Red Bull Marquee at the prestigious Formula One Grand Prix to the Red Bull stages at Festivals all over Australia, Jamie knows how to entertain. Vale has played Australia’s major events and festivals including Splendour in the Grass, Summafieldayze, Foreshore, Parklife and Formula 1 Grand Prix.

22-year-old Travis McCarthy is a Singer/Songwriter/Guitarist. His Influences include Pop, Jazz, Electronic, Folk and Roots. Think John Mayer meets the Artic Monkeys with an electronic twist. Known as the lead singer of ARIA Nominated band Watussi, Oscar has shared stages with many international artists such as Los Van Van, Santana, Seun Kuti, Clube do Balanço, and recently open for Manu Chao in his latest visit to Australia.

Born and Raised in Colombia, Oscar is an experienced performer of many styles whose music is in the vanguard, crafting a cross-cultural sound that mirrors his geographical journey. From Caribbean and South American traditional songs to reggae, funk and Latin jazz with a modern tip. Referencing Buena Vista Social Club, Carlos Vives, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Gilberto Gil, Manu Chau and many more, Oscar is able to sing in English, Portuguese and Spanish.

Nicky has been a backing vocalist for artists including the infamous INXS, Australia’s darling Olivia Newton John and X-Factor winner Dami Im. She can be heard singing for the Australian movie hit ‘A Few Best Men’ directed by Stephan Elliot (Adventures of Priscilla), as the voice of Foxtel’s V-Hits and on various Radio and TV campaigns.

Nicky has song written with some of Australia’s most accomplished writers including DNA, Rick Price, Michael Carr, Brian Cadd and countless others, with one song performed by Aleyce Simonds nominated for performance of the year at The Golden guitars.

For the past decade Andy Hall has been playing live music all over Melbourne, honing his craft to become one of the city’s most outstanding musical artists.  Having played in countless venues across Australia, entertaining audiences at many varied events and occasions, Andy is a true performer. His approach is a personal, drawing upon a diverse songbook of quality songs as opposed to popular songs – favouring the song over the shine.

August 20, 2017: The Soul Company feat. Thando on vocals.

 

Zimbabwean-born Melbourne-based singer songwriter Thando has been placed in a league all her own. In 2015 she released her single, Won’t You Be Mine, before touring the East Coast, subsequently making her professional theatre debut as Effie White in StageArt’s Dreamgirls.

The songstress released her debut EP Digital Love Letters in June 2016 and music from the EP has bee played on national broadcaster triple J and Double J radio. She went on to play the coveted role of Shug Avery in StageArt’s sold out season of The Color Purple as well as opening for Maxwell at the Palais for his black SUMMER nights tour alongside DJ MzRizk. With a slew of festival appearances in the summer including Strawberry Fields, 2017 welcomed the Melbourne singer with a sold out show at Chapel off Chapel.

With appearances at St Kilda Festival and sharing the stage with Australian acts such as REMI and Sampa The Great, this multi-dimensional performer is looking toward solidifying her status as Melbourne’s newest first lady of R&B.
