LET’S CELEBRATE TRUFFLES AT OUR BLACK TRUFFLE CELEBRATION DAY!

We are excited to announce that Prahran Market will play host to a Truffle Celebration Day event on Sunday 8 July!

Australia’s foremost truffle specialists, Friend & Burrell and our very own Damian ‘The Mushroom Man’ Pike have assembled some of Melbourne’s best chefs to showcase the Black Truffle in a series of demonstrations.

Everyone has heard of truffles – some people eat them regularly while for others they are an elusive ingredient, only for the rich and famous.

At the event, you can find out everything you ever wanted to know about truffles with the opportunity to speak to growers and experts. You will also discover that they are more accessible and affordable than many people think!

For some inspiration, head to the Omega and Neil Perry Kitchen between 11am-3pm and you can see delicious truffle dishes being cooked up by:

  • 11 am Daniel Giraldo Head Chef Maha Restaurant – Blackmore’s beef cheek, smoked celeriac, shiitake jam, brassicas and black truffle
  • Noon: Matthew Butcher Executive Chef Shilo: roasted pine mushrooms, truffle salsa, pickled golden raisins finished with Jerusalem artichoke veloute, crisps & sourgrass
  • 12.45pm: Dani Valent cook, author, restaurant reviewer, radio & tv presenter: mushroom cappuccino (an Alain Chapel classic) with bitter leaves and truffle
  • 1.15pm: Andy Harmer Head Chef of QT Melbourne – truffle linguini with Jamon fat & enoki floss
  • 2 pm: Steve Nairn Head Chef of ESP by Scott Pickett – enhancing your Sunday roast with black truffles: roast chicken with black truffle jus

Our traders will also be joining in the celebration by selling truffle-based products and dishes created especially for the occasion, including:

  • Hagen’s Organic Butcher:
    • To eat right now: Truffled mini lamb croissants
  • Maker & Monger:
    • To eat right now: Truffled brioche toastie
  • Damian Pike:
    • For the pantry: Truffle oil, honey, aioli, mustard, tapenade
    • To use or taste at home: Truffled eggs, truffle ice cream and fresh black winter truffles
  • Prahran Seafoods:
    • To eat right now: Truffled ½ shell scallops, 2 for $5
  • Naheda’s Choice:
    • To use or taste at home: Parmigiano pesto & truffle dip
  • Whisked:
    • For the pantry: Italian truffled honey tastings and sales!
  • Eggs+:
    • For the pantry: Truffle oil
  • The Essential Ingredient:
    • For the pantry: truffle salt, oil, risotto, polenta, honey and more.
