While Victoria moves into Lockdown 6.0 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Prahran Market’s food and drink Traders will remain open for customers buying groceries and take-away who live within 5km of the Market. During this time, opening hours will remain as normal.

Unfortunately, our personal service Traders are required to close for the duration of the lockdown, which commenced 8 pm last night. On current advice, those Traders are Shellzbrowbar, and Barber of Prahran. Several other Traders may continue to operate through their own delivery services or Click and Collect, including Prahran Garden Centre, Flawless Flowers, Clara’s Flowers, Prahran Market Hardware, Donnally Variety Shop, Shop Neutral and Prahran Market Shoe Repairs. For click and collect orders, please use their contact details available at https://bit.ly/3hqMT7B or through their individual social media channels.

Food Lovers’ Direct will remain paused. If the lockdown is extended and circumstances change, we will look to reinstate this service for our customers and traders. Many of our traders do offer their own delivery; you can find a list of them here: https://bit.ly/2TlSCV7

Other key changes to remember when visiting the Market:

😷 Masks or face coverings MUST be worn throughout the entire Market, subject to medical exemptions.

UPDATE: 31.07.21

It’s Saturday, friends, and a very happy one at that! 😁

Why, you ask? Because today marks the 14th day of quarantine for our incredible Traders, staff and shoppers – we’ve missed you!

And whilst it is the final day of isolation, we want to assure our community that all those present during the exposure period on Sat 17 July must receive a negative COVID test result, as well as confirmation from DHHS, to be released from quarantine. Market Management will also be conducting result checks for Traders and staff, to ensure the safety of our Market family.

If you’re planning a Market shop over the next week, we ask that you please keep in mind factors such as late test results, DHHS authorisation, staffing, cleaning, stock replenishment and store prep, as any of these could mean some Traders are up and running later than others. In saying this, we expect the majority to reopen for business as usual on Tuesday 3 August.

We appreciate your understanding and patience with us during this period, and urge all customers to visit our website or call the Market Office to check which Traders are operating, before making your way to the Market.

And finally, to all those affected, we thank you for doing your bit in stopping the spread of COVID in our community, and we CANNOT WAIT to see your friendly, smiling faces in the Market again.

Prahran Market Management 💛 #SupportPrahranMarket

22.07.2021 LATEST COVID MARKET UPDATE (7.30PM)

To our valued Market community,

After conducting a thorough deep clean of the Market and working closely with DHHS and the Infection Control Team, we have been advised that the Market is able to reopen tomorrow, Friday 23rd of July 2021.

The Market remains classified as a Tier 1 exposure site after a confirmed positive COVID case shopped at the Market on Saturday 17th of July between 9.40 am and 11.15 am.

While all Traders and their staff who were working at the Market during the above-mentioned period, are now currently in quarantine, those which have staff that were not working during that time, may open for business as usual from 7 am tomorrow.

Unfortunately, this means there may be some traders who are unable to open as they do not have the staffing resources to do so.

When visiting, we ask that you help us in maintaining the safety of our Market family by:

  •  Checking in each time you enter the Market, and at every Trader you visit.
  •  Wearing a fitted face mask unless you have an exemption.
  •  If you have any symptoms or are feeling unwell, please get tested and isolate at home.
  •  Following proper hand hygiene, washing and sanitising your hands thoroughly at every opportunity.

We look forward to welcoming you back to the Market and would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support during this time.

Please also be reminded that if you visited the Market during the exposure period, you should immediately seek a test and then quarantine yourself in accordance with current DHHS requirements. Please visit coronavirus.vic.gov.au or call the Department of Health on 1300 651 160 for further advice.

Warm wishes and stay safe,

Prahran Market.

22.07.2021 (4.49PM) LATEST MARKET UPDATE

(MORE INFO TO FOLLOW WHEN IT’S RECEIVED)

The Market underwent a thorough deep clean earlier today and we are waiting for confirmation from relevant authorities as to whether the Market can reopen tomorrow.  While we understand this uncertainty is frustrating for our entire Market Community; we promise we will inform you of their decision as soon as we receive it and our traders have been notified.

Please stay safe, and stay tuned for further updates.

Kind regards, PM.

21.07.2021 IMPORTANT COVID-19 MARKET UPDATE

To our valued customers and community,

We have just been made aware by the DHHS that a confirmed COVID-positive shopper visited Prahran Market on Saturday the 17th of July between 9.40 am and 11.15 am.

DHHS advises us that the customer visited a number of traders including Pete n Rosie’s Deli, Q le Baker, Prahran Seafoods, John Cester’s Poultry and Game, Gary’s Quality Meats, Reliable Fruit and Veg and Market Lane Coffee.  Due to the broad geographic spread of the traders, DHHS has taken the step of classifying the whole of Prahran Market a Tier 1 exposure site.

All staff working within the market during the exposure period will be immediately tested and quarantine for 14 days from the exposure date.  We will also work closely with them to conduct a deep clean of both their stalls and the Market as a whole. If you visited the Market during the exposure period, you should immediately seek a test and then quarantine yourself in accordance with current DHHS requirements.  Please visit coronavirus.vic.gov.au or call the Department of Health on 1300 651 160 for further advice.

As such, the Market will be temporarily closed tomorrow, Thursday 22nd of July 2021 in order to undertake the deep clean and receive further advice from DHHS.

We will update you, our valued customers as soon as we have more information.

The safety of our customers and Traders is our prime concern and Prahran Market is working closely with the Department of Health and relevant local authorities to ensure we are continuing to comply with the latest regulations, guidance and advice.

As soon as it is safe to do so, we will re-open Prahran Market to the community.

As a food market, we already pursued the highest standards for food handling and cleanliness. During the initial stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, we were quick to install additional preventative measures to the Market, such as hand sanitiser stations and being the first retail market in Melbourne to mandate the wearing of masks by all staff and traders. We also brought in further initiatives as the crisis evolved, such as signage for social distancing and a one-way system in Bracher Arcade. All Traders have been given updates and clear guidelines on procedures on a regular basis. The Market and individual traders also had QR codes in place as per the guidelines.

These are unprecedented times for all of us and so, when we open again, we look forward to welcoming you back to Prahran Market. Until then, we will continue to keep you updated.

We thank you for your patience as we work through our temporary closure.

Please stay safe and well until we see you again.

Update: 31.05.2021

Some of you may have seen Lee’s Asian Grocer listed as a Tier 2 exposure site on the DHHS Coronavirus website. This is a case of mistaken identity.

We have followed this up over the weekend with the relevant authorities and can confirm that this is AN ERROR and that Lee’s Asian Grocer IS NOT an exposure site. Please see screenshot of the confirmation email received from the Department of Health.

The Department of Health is working to have the record corrected and will remove Lee’s Asian Grocer from the list of exposure sites.

We will continue to work closely with DHHS & relevant local authorities to ensure we are continuing to comply with the latest regulations, guidance & advice.

Due to the latest State Government directives, all traders and customers are again required to wear a face mask within the indoor sections of the Market, from 6 pm this evening.  This does not apply to those with an exemption.

In an abundance of caution, we have moved this week’s Mexican Music Man’s performance online.  Please stay tuned to our socials  (or follow him directly here ) as we’ll have the direct access link on Thursday morning.)  Our face painter will also take a break this week.

We are so excited to announce that this weekend, Saturday AND Sunday, live musicreturned to the Market Square.

As we only have a small stage area, we will initially stick to featuring solo artists.

We will also be installing suitable barriers between the performer and the audience and all patrons are expected to continue practicing social distancing within the Market Square at all times.

Cleaning staff will be supervising the area to ensure all tables and chairs are frequently sanitised between use.

Return of the Mexican Music Man

The Mexican Music Man will be returning to the Market Square on Thursday 14th January!  How exciting is that?

But to keep everybody safe, we’ve had to change how the performances will run.  We appreciate everybody’s support in the below measures;

  • A hand sanitising station will be located close to the Mexican Music Man.  All audience members will be required to sanitise their hands.
  • All children will be required to BYO musical instruments (no maracas at home? Try filling an empty water bottle with some uncooked rice or pasta).
  • There will be no sharing of the microphone between the Mexican Music Man and the audience.
  • Our Mexican Music Man will sit up on the stage and a barrier will be installed around him; as we all know social distancing is pretty difficult when it comes to little kids so creating a physical barrier is the best way to do this.
  • Parents; please social distance at all times, too.

Ole!

Return of Thursday Face (Arm and Hand) painting

Our favourite facepainter, Alysha, will also be returning on Thursday the 14th of January.  In order to keep things Covid safe please note the following:

  • Painting will be only done on arms and hands.
  • Additional brush sets have been purchased to ensure that a new set will be used per child.  In the instance that all sets are used, an alcohol solution will be used to spray on the brushes so they can air dry and sanitise between children.
  • Water will be changed for every child
  • A 1.5m ‘bubble’ will be made around our ‘face-painter’ with bollards.  Only the ‘face painter’ and the child being painted are to be within this area at any one time.

And while we are all looking forward to the day that all of our Market Square entertainment can return in its original format, we are still excited to be able to take these steps forward!

If there are any further questions, queries or comments, please feel free to shoot us a DM.  Otherwise we look forward to seeing you at the Market.

Changes to Market Access During Peak Periods

The Market has implemented additional controls,  to ensure the Market’s patronage does not exceed our prescribed density quotient in accordance with prescribed Directions.

These include appointing specific entry and exit doors during peak market times (mainly between 10 am and 2 pm on the weekend) to better manage the flow of patrons throughout the Market.

Please see below map.

Stage 4 Restrictions

To our valued customers and community,

Metro Melbourne has moved into Stage 4 restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and Prahran Market’s food and drink Traders will remain open for customers buying groceries and take-away who live within 5km of the Market. During this time, opening hours will remain as normal. Our delivery service will also continue to operate as per usual.

Unfortunately, our non-food Traders are required to close their physical stores for the duration of the Stage 4 period, commencing 11:59 pm on Wednesday, 5 August 2020. On current advice, these Traders include Prahran Garden Centre, Flawless Flowers, Clara’s Flowers, Prahran Market Hardware, Donnally Variety Shop, Shop Neutral, Prahran Market Shoe Repairs, Lash & Brow Boudoir and the recently re-opened, Barber of Prahran. We will be sad to see them temporarily close through absolutely no fault of their own.

Some of these Traders will continue to operate under Stage 4 restrictions:

Prahran Garden Centre – Shop online via their website, www.littleforeststore.com.au.

Flawless Flowers – Shop online via their website, https://www.flawlessflowers.com.au/. Also accepting phone orders for contactless pick-up on 1300 606 000.

Prahran Market Shoe Repairs – Conducting contactless transactions 8 am – 4 pm every Market day.

For any general enquiries we recommend contacting our Traders directly.

Please note that wearing a mask or face covering is a condition of entry* and only one person per household is allowed to be shopping, according to Government guidelines.

The safety of our customers and Traders is our prime concern and Prahran Market has always looked at additional measures that can be put in place. These include launching a Victorian first with Food Lovers’ Direct, managing customer numbers both overall and within busier areas of the Market, arranging transport solutions for contractors so they do not need to use public transport and providing a free box of face masks to all Traders, in line with our mandatory facemask policy introduced prior to the Government requirement.

Prahran Market will continue to work closely with the Department of Health and relevant local authorities to ensure we are continuing to comply with the latest regulations, guidance and advice.

Our thoughts are with everyone in our community at this stressful time.

Stay safe and we look forward to delivering our produce to your homes and seeing you at the Market.

The Prahran Market Family 💛

No Mask, No Entry Policy

As of 7 am Thursday 23 July, we will be enforcing a ‘No Mask, No Entry’ policy at Prahran Market. We are doing this as the health and safety of our Traders, their families, our customers and the wider community is of paramount importance to us. If you choose not to wear a mask, you are not permitted to enter the Market. If you do so, you may be asked to leave or refused entry.*

We thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

*Exemptions apply in accordance with Government policy. Masks include all approved face coverings as determined by the State Government of Victoria from time to time.

We will remain open as long as we are allowed and it’s safe to do so. We have implemented a number of additional measures to help ensure the safety of our traders and customers. These include (but are not limited to):

  • additional sanitation measures, including antibacterial gels in all public bathrooms
  • freestanding hand sanitation units
  • additional cleaning of touchpoints
  • additional information / training for traders to ensure we are operating in full accordance with the recommended protocols
  • social distancing floor decals to assist customers in keeping their space
  • highly visible, large-scale informative signage
  • extra security guards on-site
  • announcements over our PA system
  • live door count monitoring

We have implemented additional controls to further ensure the Market remains a safe environment for all customers and Traders at this time.

Cafes & Restaurants

Our amazing eateries and restaurants are still open for business, abiding by the new restrictions and offering takeaway services only. They need your support now more than ever, so we’ve rounded up a few of their takeaway menus to make deciding what to order for breakfast, lunch or dinner a little easier. Head here to check them out.

Market Square

For the moment, furniture configurations will remain as is in Market Square. We will be guided by the Government’s easing of restrictions in late June before making any changes to this area, including a decision on the return of our live weekend entertainment. We will be sure to communicate any updates via our website and social channels.

Bracher & Deli Arcades

Entry to Bracher Arcade during peak periods will now only be permitted from the Market Square end (near Ann’s Fish & Chips). Depending on crowd numbers, customers may also be asked to queue inside, out of the weather, to ensure we are able to monitor numbers and control movements. The doors closest to Gary’s Meats and Arthur’s Poultry will become an ‘Exit Only’, creating a one-way flow through the Arcade.

Deli Arcade Traders have pulled their displays and refrigerators a little further back to allow for additional shoppers to pass through the area while maintaining appropriate distancing.

UPDATE: COVID-19 Outbreak in Melbourne Abattoir

Prahran Market Butchers would like to reassure their customers that none of their farmers or suppliers are connected to the COVID-19 outbreak in a Melbourne abattoir. If you have any further questions or concerns about this, please don’t hesitate to contact your favourite butcher directly, https://www.prahranmarket.com.au/trader-type/butchers/.

*Now Paused* New Prahran Market Online Market place complete with delivery.

We have launched Food Lovers’ Direct; a brand new online market place to ensure our valued customers can continue accessing their favourite fresh market produce, from the safety and comfort of their own homes.

From meat to poultry, to eggs and milk, to seasonal fruit and veg and your favourite deli items, you’ll find them all in our online Marketplace.

Prahran Market Home Delivery

We will be providing further updates as and when the situation changes but, for now, its business as usual at the Market.

We are monitoring the issue of COVID-19 closely and will follow the advice of relevant health authorities in addition to being in daily contact with the City of Stonnington. We will continue to work closely with them and DHHS to ensure we are following the latest possible advice.

Our stallholders and their staff have been briefed accordingly to ensure they are implementing protective measures within their premises. Any stallholders or staff, who are unwell for any reason, have been directed to remain at home in self-imposed isolation until medically cleared to return to work. In addition, we continue to reinforce that any of our Market community who have returned from overseas trips must self-isolate for the required period of time, as required by Authorities.

As a customer, if you are experiencing symptoms and are in need of supplies, we ask that you please stay at home. A number of our traders already offer home delivery services; you can find this comprehensive list, here.

Things to keep in mind when shopping:

On your next Market visit, please remember to keep in mind the following:

  • Stay 1.5 metres from others during your shop (2.0 metres if space allows), especially when queueing at registers.
  • Use the additional hand sanitiser stations located throughout the Market.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds.
  • Cough or sneeze into a tissue or the crease of your arm, not your hands.
  • Place the tissue into a rubbish bin immediately after use and then wash and/or sanitise your hands.
  • If possible, pay using card instead of cash – almost all of our Traders are now ‘card only’.
  • Avoid touching fresh produce with your hands by using a bag to create a barrier.
  • If you have no intention of purchasing a product, don’t pick it up.
  • Avoid shopping in couples or groups by selecting one person per household to shop.
  • Shop for the essentials and fresh produce, as well as takeaway meals and stay home until your next shop.

Change in upcoming events

We have made the heartbreaking decision to cancel all events and entertainment for the foreseeable future.

Change in door procedures

Historically, our Market doors have always opened prior to our official 7 AM start time, on Market Days.

With an increase in orders and demand for stock, we need to keep the Market free of customers while there is more than usual heavy machinery trasversing Market Hall, to prevent an unnecessary accident and to ensure the shelves are at their fullest when the doors are opened.

If you have a delivery or are a member of staff and need to enter the market prior to 7 AM, please locate Security at one of the doors where they can provide you with access.

If you are a keen customer, please bear with us while our Traders complete their preperations for the day. All doors will be opened to the public at 7 AM.

Should you have any questions, please contact Market Management on 8290 8220 or email management@prahranmarket.com.au

If things change, we will communicate them via this page and our social media channels.
