Video- How to blanch and de-seed a tomato

Blanching tomatoes the easy way

These simple steps are perfect for those recipes that require blanching tomatoes and also deseeding them.

  1. Take off the tomato’s stalk by twisting it a few times.
  2. Remove the core using a sharp knife
  3. Cut an ‘X’ shape into the base of the tomato with a knife
  4. Using a fork, put the tomato into boiling water until the skin starts to blister.
  5. Immediately remove and submerge into iced water to cool.
  6. Peel off the skin
  7. Cut in half horizontally
  8. Using a teaspoon, take out the seeds one section at a time
  9. Done!

If you just need your tomatoes with the skin off, simply follow steps 1 to 6.

Or, if you have a recipe that calls for tomatoes to just be de-seeded, simply follow steps 7 and 8!
